Beer Hackett Parish Records, Dorset

	Beer Hackett is a small parish and village 4 miles south-west from Sherborne. To the north is the parish of Thornford, to the east is Lillington with Leigh at the southern tip, Yetminster is south-west and Bradford Abbas to the west. The parish church of St Michael is in the Early English style and has a chancel, nave, south porch and west tower with 4 bells. With the exception of the tower it was rebuilt in 1882. It seats 100 people and the parish registers date from 1549.
The parish covers 918 acres and the soil is clay, therefore most of the land is laid to pasture. Included in the parish is the tything of Knighton. The children from Beer Hackett attended the school at Thornford. There was never any post office or shop in the village and the census regularly reveal a population primarily engaged in agriculture. In 1891 the population of the parish including Knighton was 85 persons.
