The Bankruptcy of William Godwin, 1836

The London Gazette, Tuesday 12 January 1836

WHEREAS a Fiat in Bankruptcy is awarded and issued forth against William Godwin , of Gillingham, in the county of Dorset, Timber-Merchant, Dealer and Chapman, and he being declared a Bankrupt is hereby required to surrender himself to the Commissioners in the said Fiat named, or the major part of them, on the 22d day of January instant, at the Talbot Inn, Iwerne Minster, in the County of Dorset, and on the 23rd of February next, at, the Greyhound Inn, Blandford, Dorsetshire, at Eleven in the Forenoon on each of the said days, and make a full discovery and disclosure of his estate and effects; when and where the Creditors are to come prepared to prove their debts, and at the first sitting to choose Assignees, and at the last sitting the said Bankrupt is required to finish his examination, and the Creditors are to assent to or dissent from the allowance of his certificate. All persons indebted to the said Bankrupt, or that have any of his effects, are not to pay or deliver the same but to whom the Commissioners shall appoint, but give notice to Messrs. Venning and Naylor, No. 9, Tokenhouse-Yard, London, or to Mr. Philip Mathews Chitty, Solicitor, Shaftesbury.

By order of the Assignees of William Godwin, a Bankrupt, to be sold by auction, by Thomas Lewis, at The Greyhound Inn, Wincanton Somerset on Wednesday 25 May 1836 at three o'clock in the afternoon, the following very desirable Freehold and Copyhold Estates, situate in the parish of Gillingham, in the county of Dorset:

LOT 1: All that dwelling house with the Stall and Outbuildings, Garden, Orchard and several closes of Arable and Pasture land, adjoining, containing together by measure, 16A or 22P situate at Huntingford, now in the occupation of John Honeyfield, as yearly tenant. This Lot is partly Freehold and partly Copyhold of inheritance.

LOT 2: The Malthouse Estate, consisting of the following Farm House, Pasture Lands, Cottages etc., now in the occupation of George Read, as yearly tenant:

LOT 3: All those Freehold Buildings, Timber Yard and close of Meadow, adjoining, situate at Newberry, containing by admeasurement 7A. 0R. 5P. Late in the occupation of William Godwin , as tenant thereof.

LOT 4: The Estate for the life of the said bankrupt, now aged 28 years, in the event of his surviving Mary, his wife, now age 27 years, in the following Freehold and Copyhold property, situate at Gillingham; viz - All that Messuage, Tenement or Dwelling House, with the piece or parcel of Land, Garden, Orchard, Stable and Outbuildings thereunto adjoining, containing by estimation nearly an acre, now in the occupation of Charles Light, as tenant.

And also, all that piece or parcel of Land called the Poors Allotment, containing by estimation, one Acre or thereabouts, now in the occupation of William Light, as tenant. The above-mentioned Premises are Freehold.

And also, all that Close of Meadow called Chubbs Mead, containing by estimation, four Acres (more or less), situate at Porridge Hill, and now in the occupation of the said Charles Light, as tenant.

And also, two Acres of Allotment Land, lying near Woodwater, now in the occupation of the said William Light, as tenant. The last-mentioned premises are Copyhold of Inheritance.

And also, the contingent Remainder in Fee of the said Bankrupt in the last mentioned Freehold and Copyhold Premises, in the event of the said Bankrupt and Mary his wife, dying without leaving any child or children, dying before he, she or they shall have acquired vested interests under the Trusts of Indenture of Settlement, bearing date the 26 th September 1832, and executed on the marriage of the said Bankrupt, with the said Mary, his wife.

And also, the interest of the said Bankrupt, on the happening of either of the last-mentioned events, in the monies to be produced from the sale of the last mentioned Freehold and Copyhold premises, in case the same should be sold under the Trusts of the aforementioned Indenture.

The respective tenants will show the premises, and for further particulars, apply to Messrs. Pratt, solicitors, Glastonbury, or Mr. P. M. Chitty, solicitor, Shaftesbury. Letters to be post-paid.
