Parish of Marnhull
1821 CENSUS
Transcribed from records at the Dorchester Record Office Ref: MIC/R/1044
Copies
of the census prior to 1841 are rare and usually contain no more than head
counts. Marnhull is fortunate in that a detailed record of this survey
survives. It was taken by Thomas Hayward, the Schoolmaster and is executed in
neat handwriting, on the front cover we can probably attribute the preservation
of this record to him as he has written:-
"This Account is to be
Preserved by the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor, in succession, in
order for referring to at any future period - Agreeable to the Order in the
within named Act."
Account of the Population, number of Inhabited Houses, Families, Occupation and Ages of teh Males and Females of the Parish of Marnhull, Hundred of Sturminster Newton Castle, County of Dorset. Taken in the May and June in the Year 1821,Agreeable to Act of HM Geo. 4th Chap. 94.
