Pimperne Parish Records, Dorset

Pimperne is a parish on the road from Blandford to Salisbury, being about 2½ miles north-east from Blandford. The church of St Peter has a fine Norman arch in the porch. The parish registers date from 1559. There was also a Wesleyan chapel and a reading room. A National School was built in 1864. In the centre of the village are the remains of an old cross. 	The downlands in the parish contain many barrows, including a long barrow, the area was once well known as a training ground for racehorses. In 1886 the hamlet of Nutford was transferred from Blandford to Pimperne and under the Local Government Act of 1894 a further portion of Blandford was transferred to this parish. The area is now 2914 acres and in 1891 the population was 420 in the civil and 391 in the ecclesiastical parish.
