The Church was anciently a free chapel, founded in honour of St Michael. The parts are chancel, body and south chapel. It was rebuilt almost wholly about the same time with the adjoining manor-house, with which it was made to correspond in style, as it forms a prominent object close to the principal front.
The only feature of interest is a double bell-cot, which terminates the west gable, sheltering two small bells.
Beneath the little aisle or chapel, on the south side, is the vault of the Tregonwells, whose arms are painted on the wall.
There is a mural tablet to:
“Margaret, second daughter of Samuel Basket, MA, Vicar of Shapwick and Rector of Owermoigne, in the County of Dorset, the relict of George Galpine, late of Blandford Forum. She was born 23 December 1712, and died 16 March 1803.” and to her son
William Damer Galpine, died August 5, 1800, aged 56
Her son Thomas Galpine, died at sea 8 January 1763, aged 17.
